Xeomin in New York City with Dr. Shridharani

Q: What is Xeomin?
Xeomin is a neuromodulator that blocks the release of chemicals that cause muscle contractions causing frown lines to soften. Xeomin can temporarily improve the appearance of both mild to severe frown lines between the eyebrows, forehead, and crow’s feet. Xeomin can also be used to soften the lines around the mouth, chin, and neck.
Q: How long does Xeomin last?
Every patient is different depending on his or her metabolism of Xeomin. Most patients find their Xeomin injections last around 3-4 months. Certain patients metabolize Xeomin faster than others leaving them with Xeomin’s effects for 2-3 months, while others have the amazing benefit for up to 6 months. Over time Xeomin can fatigue the muscle allowing for less movement after the Xeomin wears off, allowing more time between injections.
Q: How long does it take for the effects to kick in after injection?
You may begin to notice results within 24 to 48 hours for moderate to severe frown lines. It takes about 7-10 days to see maximal results from Xeomin.
Q: I am someone who is very expressive with talking. I have fine lines on my nose and forehead. Can Xeomin help these lines?
If you are someone who is often wrinkling your nose or forehead, Xeomin is a great way to treat or even prevent those fine lines from forming. Even after the Xeomin wears off, patients often find they are less likely to frown or wrinkle their nose because they have trained themselves out of the habit.
Q: I’m in my twenties… can I have Xeomin for preventative measures?
Xeomin in your “20’s” is becoming more and more common due to the concept of “preventive aesthetic medicine.” Every patient has to be seen and considered on a case-by- case basis. The prevention of wrinkles and taking care of one’s skin is appropriate when done safely and by a licensed practitioner who understands the anatomy, has trained extensively in the field of plastic surgery, and can match their skill set with your expectations. Also, preventing the wrinkles before they become prominent is helpful in preventing the need for other treatments that can be more expensive (fillers, lasers) in the future.
Q: Can Xeomin be used to reduce the appearance of my widened jaw?
Yes. Patient’s with a strong masseter (chewing) muscle, often a result of TMJ or stress, can be relaxed by Xeomin and create a softer jawline.
Q: Can Xeomin be used to treat excessive sweating?
Yes! Botulinum toxin type A has been shown to decrease sweating and excessive underarm sweating. Many patients find that they are very pleased with decreased sweating after injections during the summer months and they decide to continue the injections year round.
Q: Can Xeomin be used to treat headache symptoms associated with chronic migraines?
Xeomin became FDA approved treatment of chronic migraines in 2010.
