Why Liposuction May be Better than CoolSculpting

Liposuction New York City, NYAt Luxurgery in New York City, we are all about choices. If years in cosmetic surgery have taught us anything, it’s that no two patients are exactly alike. We recognize the strong desire that many people have for non-surgical protocols. This is one of the reasons why Dr. Shridharani has lived at the cutting edge with his innovative use of Kybella for facial and body sculpting.

Additionally, patients who visit our facility may choose to sculpt certain parts of their body with CoolSculpting. Even with the innovative developments that have occurred, though, liposuction still reigns supreme. Here’s why surgical liposuction may be better than non-surgical fat reduction for some people.

Body Sculpting without Surgery

Non-surgical body sculpting works by forcing an immune response in the body. CoolSculpting does this by freezing fat cells. During treatment sessions, an area of tissue is suctioned between cooling panels. The size of this area is described by the manufacturer as “a stick of butter.” Imagining this, you can see that the total size of the treatment area may not be as substantial as you thought it would be. An average stick of butter represents approximately 4 ounces of mass. From this standpoint, a reduction of 23% of fat in the treatment area is not extraordinarily impressive.

Surgical Body Sculpting with Liposuction

Generally speaking, liposuction is the process of removing fatty deposits from one or more areas of the body. Several different techniques have been developed over the years, and many of them are available in our office. In most cases, a liposuction procedure can remove up to 2.5 liters of fatty tissue, or about 100 ounces. Depending on the technology involved in the body-contouring surgery, a degree of skin retraction may also result from heat and collagen tightening. Furthermore, for patients who are interested in sculpting a particular part of the body, such as the abdomen, liposuction techniques can achieve this, whereas non-surgical fat reduction cannot.

Is liposuction always better than CoolSculpting? No. That’s why we offer the non-surgical protocol. However, for the person who is looking to achieve more substantial, more noticeable results, liposuction may be the ideal solution.
