Q: What is Juvederm?
The Juvederm collection of fillers is made from hyaluronic acid (HA). HA a natural substance in the skin that delivers nutrients, helps the skin retain moisture and softness, and adds volume. Each product in the Juvederm collection of fillers is made from a modified form of HA, which makes each product specific for you. Juvederm is made by Allergan (makers of Botox and Kybella)
Q: What can Juvederm be used for?
Juvederm is used for injection for the correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. Juvederm has medium sized molecules of HA that work well for the smile lines or nasolabial folds.
Juvederm Ultra is used for injection into the lips and perioral area for lip augmentation. Juvederm Ultra has the smaller sized molecules of HA that are perfect for the very fine lines without leaving any lumps or bumps behind.
Juvederm Ultra Plus is used for injection into the smile lines (nasolabial folds/creases) and midface/cheekbone area. Juvederm Ultra Plus has larger sized molecules of HA that are perfect for the deeper lines and creases, which allows for structural integrity and hold.
Juvederm Voluma is used for deep injection in the cheek area to correct age-related volume loss around the cheekbones. Voluma has larger sized molecules of HA to fill in the hollow areas with still giving a very natural look.
Q: How long does the procedure take?
It takes around 15-30 minutes for a treatment depending on how many areas need to be contoured.
Q: Does it hurt?
Dr. Shridharani uses Juvederm products that have built-in numbing medicine to help minimize discomfort during your treatment. Many patients find the injections are no worse than a bee sting.
Q: What can I expect after my injection?
After your injection, you should expect a little bit of swelling, slight redness, and possible small bruise, which seems to resolve/go away in a matter of hours. Avoiding heavy exercise, salty foods, alcohol, and sleeping face down will help avoid excessive swelling.
Q: When will I see results?
Q: How long does it last?
Results have been proven to last up to one year. Duration is patient specific depending on the body’s metabolism of the product and can be as short as a few months, but that is exceedingly rare.
