Dysport in New York City with Dr. Shridharani

What is Dysport?

Dysport treats moderate to severe frown lines by reducing specific muscle activity. Wrinkles and creases are caused by repeated movements and muscle contractions, which means they can even develop in younger adults. Dysport temporarily prevents muscle contractions that cause frown lines, leaving the rest of your face to move naturally.

How long does Dysport last?

Every patient is different depending on his or her metabolism of Dysport. Most patients find their Dysport injections last around 3-4 months. Certain patients metabolize Dysport faster than others leaving them with Dysport’s effects for 2-3 months, while others have the amazing benefit for up to 6 months. Over time Dysport can fatigue the muscle allowing for less movement after the Dysport wears off, allowing more time between injections.

How long does it take for the effects to kick in after injection?

You may begin to notice results within 24 to 48 hours for moderate to severe frown lines. It takes about 7-10 days to see maximal results from Dysport.

Can Dysport be used to treat excessive sweating?

Yes! Botulinum toxin type A has been shown to decrease sweating and excessive underarm sweating. Many patients find that they are very pleased with decreased sweating after injections during the summer months and they decide to continue the injections year round.
Can Dysport be used to treat headache symptoms associated with chronic migraines?
Dysport became FDA approved treatment of chronic migraines in 2010.

What should I expect after Dysport? Is there any down time?

After your injection, you should expect a little bit of swelling and slight redness, which seems to resolve/go away in a matter of hours. Avoiding heavy exercise, salty foods, alcohol, and sleeping face down will help avoid excessive swelling.

If I try Dysport once will I need to continue treatments forever?

No! Most patients love their Dysport injections so much they want to continue injections but it is not something you have to continue forever.

Can I have Dysport injected while being pregnant?
