What Is Radiesse?
Radiesse is a dermal filler injectable that adds volume under the skin. This treatment uses hyaluronic acid to increase volume and collagen in specific regions of the face. Radiesse can be used to enhance fullness in hollow cheeks, smooth fine lines and wrinkles, plump thin lips, and enhance certain facial features. The benefits of Radiesse include:
- Adding fullness to hollow cheeks
- Plumping thin lips
- Increasing volume under the eyes
- Enhancing the jawline
- Accentuating the cheekbones
- Smoothing fine lines and wrinkles
- Increasing collagen for ongoing anti-aging effects
Cosmetic injectables like Radiesse are non-surgical, outpatient procedures. Patients can receive treatment in under an hour and return home immediately afterward. There is no recovery or downtime required after treatment with Radiesse.
What Is Radiesse Made Of?
Radiesse is made up of calcium hydroxyapatite in a water-based gel, a natural substance found in teeth and bone. Injections are placed deep into the dermis to stimulate your body to make more collagen where it is injected. This leads to natural results that last! Over time, the body absorbs the gel, leaving behind only natural collagen.
What Can Radiesse Be Used to Do?
Radiesse is great for deeper folds (nasolabial folds), volume loss in the cheeks, and jaw contouring (pre-jowl folds). Radiesse can also be used to plump and fill the skin of the hands.

How Long Does a Radiesse Treatment Take?
It takes around 15-30 minutes for a treatment depending on how many areas need to be filled.
What Makes Radiesse Different from Other Fillers?
While most dermal fillers simply add volume under the skin, Radiesse sets itself apart from other injectables by increasing natural collagen production. Boosting collagen is essential for improving the appearance of aging skin, as it can combat numerous signs of aging. The ongoing collagen production stimulated by Radiesse injections can effectively smooth wrinkles, firm sagging skin, and create a more youthful appearance overall.
How Is Radiesse Administered?
Radiesse injectables are administered in-office. You will have a consultation prior to your session to determine which areas will be receiving treatment. For most patients, this is some combination of the cheeks, under eyes, or lips.
During your Radiesse session, you will be able to sit or lie back in a reclined position while the injections are administered. Using an ultrafine needle, we will gently inject the Radiesse solution under the skin into pre-determined injection sites. The entire procedure can take anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the areas being treated.
How Soon Can I Expect to See Results?
Patients notice an increase in volume under the skin within several hours of their Radiesse injections. This volume may increase slightly in the days that follow. The collagen production created by Radiesse will occur gradually in the weeks after treatment. As collagen increases in the skin, patients will begin to notice fewer wrinkles, decreased facial creasing, and overall smoother and firmer skin.
How Long Do Results Last?
The results of Radiesse are not permanent. The increase in volume under the skin will last anywhere from three months to one year, depending on the patient and the site of injection. While increased volume will gradually dissolve, the natural collagen production stimulated by Radiesse will be ongoing. Patients can see an overall improvement in age-related changes for over one year because of this boost in collagen.
Does Radiesse Have Any Side Effects?
Radiesse cosmetic injectables are a safe, simple procedure. Most patients experience no adverse effects after having Radiesse injections administered. With that being said, there is still the potential for certain side effects after receiving these cosmetic injectables. Radiesse side effects include swelling, bruising, itching, or pain at the injection site. If you experience any of these side effects, you must let us know right away.
Do Radiesse Treatments Hurt?
As with any injection, injections with Radiesse may cause slight discomfort. Radiesse is injected in small amounts using a very fine needle. Dr. Shridharani often applies a topical or local anesthetic to ease any discomfort.
What Can I Expect After My Radiesse Injection?
After your injection, you should expect a little bit of swelling and slight redness, which seems to resolve/go away in the matter of hours. Avoiding heavy exercise, salty foods, alcohol, and sleeping face down will help avoid excessive swelling.
When Will I See Results from Radiesse?
Immediately! With Radiesse, you can get immediate results paired with the extended benefit of your own natural collagen stimulation. The results start out great and just keep getting better.
How Long Does Radiesse Last?
Results have been shown to last a year or more in many patients. Results vary by patient depending on the body’s metabolism of the product.
