What is a Mommy Makeover?
A Mommy Makeover operation is a series of procedures that CAN be performed at the same time provided you are a good candidate. The surgeries that are performed address the breasts, abdomen, and flanks/sides of the tummy.
What are the top reasons that new moms get a makeover?
Pregnancy and having a baby are a very exciting and special time for my patients. With the excitement and routine of caring for the child, many moms go through several physical changes. Restoring one’s body back to its pre-baby state can be challenging and is not always able to occur with diet and exercise, alone. Also, the cumulative sleepless nights take a toll on the face, as well. The top reasons new moms get a makeover are:
- Exercise and eating healthy doesn’t get my pre-mommy body back
- Breast feeding has left my breasts deflated and droopy
- The pregnancy stretched my skin and doesn’t look the same or as tight as before
- I don’t have the same shape that I used to have when I am in clothes
- I look tired and aged

Do I need a breast lift, breast reduction, breast augmentation, or combination?
You may be a candidate for any one of the procedures depending on what your goals are! There are multiple factors that come into play when deciding what the right procedure for you to have is when deciding what to do with the changes that occur in your breasts after having children. Coming in for a consult and sharing your wishes with me will help guide me as to how we can work together to ensure you have the right operation.
What procedures do patients generally choose to undergo and why?
Patients who have all of the elements of the “post-baby body” generally opt for a mommy makeover. This is comprised of a breast lift with possible augmentation, liposuction of the waist/abdomen, and tummy tuck.
What do you recommend patients do and why?
I meet with all of my patients seeking cosmetic surgery at least twice before their procedure. I like to get to know them and what their expectations are. Also, patients sometimes change their minds about procedures or size of implants. My recommendations are guided on my patients’ plans for future pregnancies. The decision is important and impacts timing for various procedures. If the patient has thought this through and is at a stable weight, then a breast lift with possible augmentation to restore volume is wonderful. Along with this, liposuction and tummy tuck is a transformative procedure and really restores a woman’s physique to a pre-baby state.
I also like performing a face assessment to see if my “new mom” is showing signs of aging or fatigue, which I can address non-surgically. I love using Botox to improve the appearance of frown lines between the eyebrows. The lines and wrinkles vanish within days and are still absent months later. Also, using a little filler like Juvederm and Restylane for the cheeks and Restylane Silk or Volbella for the lips really can give a rejuvenated look in a matter of minutes and last for months.
When is the best time for me to have the procedure? Can I have children after the surgery?
It is always a good idea to get into the best shape you can before undergoing any surgery. Feeling good and being at a healthy weight before your surgery will only improve your overall recovery and experience. The best time to have the surgery is at least 6 weeks after having your baby and when you feel you have returned close to your pre-pregnancy weight.
It is not advisable to have an abdominoplasty/”tummy tuck” if you are planning on having more children.
Is removing stretch marks a part of the Mommy Makeover?
Stretch marks on the abdomen can be surgically removed depending on the location of the stretch marks. This will lead to a much better overall appearance of your stomach.
What is the downtime/recovery time for the body/face procedures?
The downtime for patients undergoing facial injectables is quick. My “moms” get their fillers and Botox on quick breaks in between running errands. There is always a risk of bruising and swelling, but this quickly resolves within hours. It is rare to see persistent swelling or bruising beyond a couple of days.
Surgery is different. I advise my patients to take their time when recovering. The first week is marked by tenderness, bruising, and swelling. By week two, most patients are moving around really well. By week three, I am reminding them that they had surgery and to take it easy!
How soon will I see results?
Immediately for surgery and fillers! Botox takes about 5-10 days to kick in. The final results of any surgery take 6 months to 1 year to see. Most of the swelling subsides in the first 2-3 months.

Mommy Makeover FAQ
The reason for new mom makeovers growing in popularity are partially due to women having children later than they typically used to, but also because the techniques and safety measures are more advanced now than ever before. We have medications that alleviate pain better than before, which decrease the need for narcotic pain medication. We have techniques that are advanced and get rid of the need for using painful drains and unnecessary antibiotics. We have better breast implants that are safer. Finally, we have dermal fillers and neuromodulators that last longer and look more natural.
Patients have the confidence to have the procedures, because the surgeries are more understood and continue to be refined than 20 years ago. Going to a plastic surgeon who is current and up-to-date is critical.
