FIRST-IN-CLASS SEROTYPE E NEUROTOXIN
What is Boey (TrenibotE)?
TrenibotulinumtoxinE — known by its brand name Boey™ and generic name TrenibotE — is a first-in-class botulinum neurotoxin serotype E, making it uniquely different from every other approved neurotoxin on the market, which are all serotype A or B. Developed by Allergan Aesthetics (AbbVie), TrenibotE is indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe glabellar lines (the frown lines between the brows), and represents a new generation of neuromodulator with a distinctly rapid onset and shorter duration of action.
How is Boey different from Botox or Dysport?
All currently available neurotoxins — Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, Jeuveau, Daxxify, Letybo — are botulinum toxin serotype A. Boey (TrenibotE) is a serotype E, meaning it works through a distinct biological mechanism. The result is a dramatically faster onset (results can appear as early as 8 HOURS after injection, vs. 3–5 days for serotype A toxins) and a shorter overall duration of 2–3 weeks compared to 3–4 months for traditional neurotoxins.
Boey is ideal for patients who want to try a neurotoxin before committing to a longer-lasting treatment, those with events coming up in days rather than weeks, or patients who prefer to rotate their treatment schedule more frequently.
How does Boey (TrenibotE) work?
Like all botulinum toxins, Boey works by temporarily blocking nerve signals to targeted muscles, preventing them from contracting and thereby softening the appearance of dynamic wrinkles. As a serotype E neurotoxin, it cleaves a different SNARE protein than serotype A toxins, which is what accounts for its rapid onset and shorter duration profile. Injections are made directly into the glabellar muscles responsible for frown lines.
What areas can be treated with Boey?
Boey (TrenibotE) is currently indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe glabellar lines. As with all neurotoxins, it may be explored by experienced injectors for off-label use in other areas of dynamic expression — including forehead lines, crow's feet, brow lifting, and more. A full consultation will help determine the best treatment plan for your individual concerns.
When will I see results from Boey?
Boey's most distinctive feature is its exceptionally rapid onset. Clinical studies showed results as early as 8 hours after injection — the earliest assessment time point studied. This makes it unlike any other neurotoxin currently available, where results typically begin appearing 2–5 days after treatment.
How long do Boey results last?
Boey (TrenibotE) has a shorter duration of effect compared to traditional neurotoxins — approximately 2 to 3 weeks. This is by design: the serotype E mechanism naturally produces a more transient effect, which allows patients to experience neurotoxin treatment on a shorter cycle or use it as a preview before committing to longer-lasting options like Botox or Daxxify.
What is the clinical evidence supporting Boey?
The BLA submission to the FDA was supported by data from more than 2,100 patients enrolled across two pivotal Phase 3 clinical trials (M21-500 and M21-508) and a long-term open-label safety study (M21-509). Research presented at the 2026 American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) and the Aesthetic & Anti-Aging Medicine World Congress (AMWC) demonstrated consistent efficacy and safety across diverse patient populations.
What is the FDA approval status of Boey?
AbbVie submitted a Biologics License Application (BLA) to the U.S. FDA for TrenibotE in April 2025. The FDA subsequently issued a Complete Response Letter requesting additional information related to manufacturing processes — citing no safety or efficacy concerns and not requesting additional clinical studies. Boey is not yet commercially available in the U.S. pending final FDA approval.
What are the potential side effects of Boey?
As with other botulinum toxin injections, common side effects may include temporary redness, bruising, swelling, tenderness, or discomfort at the injection site. These effects are generally mild and localized. Clinical trials demonstrated a consistent safety profile across repeat treatments. A full review of risks and benefits will be discussed during your consultation.
What is the recovery like after Boey treatment?
Since Boey is a non-surgical injectable treatment, there is minimal downtime. Most patients resume normal activities immediately following their appointment. Any injection-site effects such as redness or mild swelling typically resolve within hours to a day. Given the rapid onset, many patients begin noticing softening of their frown lines the same day as treatment.
