Restylane Skinbooster is a hyaluronic acid treatment from Galderma designed to hydrate and improve skin quality from within rather than add volume. Below are answers to the questions we hear most often from patients considering treatment.
What is Restylane Skinbooster?
Restylane Skinbooster is a hyaluronic acid (HA) injectable from Galderma that focuses on improving overall skin quality rather than reshaping or filling. It uses a patented small-particle, stabilized hyaluronic acid (SB-NASHA™ technology) delivered in tiny microdroplets just beneath the surface of the skin, leaving you with healthier, smoother, and more radiant skin. With more than 18 years of clinical experience and over 9 million treatments worldwide, it is one of the most established skin quality treatments available.
How does Restylane Skinbooster work?
Restylane Skinbooster is delivered as a series of precise microdroplets into the dermis — the deeper layer of the skin. The hyaluronic acid acts as a long-lasting moisture reservoir that hydrates the skin from the inside, while gently stimulating collagen and elastin production and supporting your skin’s own hyaluronic acid renewal. Over time, this improves elasticity, firmness, smoothness, and overall radiance.
How is Restylane Skinbooster different from a traditional dermal filler?
Traditional dermal fillers restore lost volume and reshape specific areas of the face. Skinbooster does something different: it improves the quality of the skin itself. It is not designed to add volume or sculpt features. Instead, it strengthens the skin from within, softening fine lines, dryness, dullness, and texture issues across a broader area. Think of it as deep skin hydration and rejuvenation rather than contouring.
Does Dr. Shridharani have experience with Restylane Skinbooster?
Dr. Shridharani was a clinical trial investigator for the pivotal study assessing the safety and efficacy of this first of kind treatment for lines in the décolletage. In addition to studying this dermal filler for over one year, he was also involved with launching the product in several international markets where approval already occurred. This makes Dr. S, one of the most experienced clinicians in the world with this new skin treatment.
What areas can be treated with Restylane Skinbooster?
Restylane Skinbooster is versatile and can be used on the full face (cheeks, forehead, temples, around the eyes and mouth), the lower face and jawline, the neck, the décolletage, and the backs of the hands. It is especially popular for areas that show early signs of skin aging — such as the neck, hands, and the fine crepiness that can appear around the eyes.
What is the difference between Skinboosters Vital and Skinboosters Vital Light?
Both formulations are based on the same SB-NASHA™ technology, but with different consistencies for different skin types. Skinboosters Vital is designed for regular to thicker skin, such as the cheeks, hands, and décolletage. Skinboosters Vital Light is designed for thinner, more delicate skin, such as the neck and the area around the eyes. Dr. Shridharani will choose the formulation best suited to your skin and the treatment area.
What should I expect at my appointment at LUXURGERY?
Your appointment begins with a consultation with Dr. Shridharani to discuss your concerns, evaluate your skin, and determine the right plan for you. The treatment itself typically takes about 15 to 45 minutes, depending on the area being treated. A series of small microdroplet injections is placed just under the surface of the skin using the patented SmartClick™ syringe, which allows for exceptionally controlled, even placement.
How many treatments will I need?
For optimal results, an initial plan typically includes three sessions spaced about four weeks apart. After this initial series, maintenance treatments every six to twelve months will keep your results looking their best.
When will I see results?
You may notice an immediate improvement in skin hydration and softness after your first session. Visible improvements in skin quality, elasticity, and radiance continue to develop over the following weeks. Optimal results usually appear after the second or third treatment in your initial plan.
How long do Restylane Skinbooster results last?
Results from a full initial treatment plan can last up to twelve months — and in clinical studies, up to fifteen months — when supported with regular maintenance treatments. Duration will vary by patient, skin type, lifestyle, and area treated.
What is the recovery time after Skinbooster injections?
There is minimal downtime. You may see small bumps at the injection sites for a few hours, and you may have mild redness, swelling, bruising, or tenderness for a few days. The LUXURGERY team will apply cold-pack treatment to help minimize these effects. Most patients return to their normal routine right away.
What aftercare should I follow at home?
For the first 24 hours, avoid touching, rubbing, or pressing on the treated areas, and avoid makeup for at least 12 hours. Stay hydrated, protect your skin from direct sun, and avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, hot showers, and alcohol. Any mild swelling or pinpoint marks typically resolve within a few days.
What are the side effects of Restylane Skinbooster?
The most common side effects are mild and local to the injection site — small bumps, swelling, redness, bruising, tenderness, itching, and discoloration — and usually resolve within a few days to two weeks. Less commonly, patients may experience temporary lumpiness or asymmetry. Rare but serious reactions can include infection, allergic reaction, or vascular complications. Any persistent or severe reaction should be reported to your provider immediately.
Who is a good candidate for Restylane Skinbooster?
You may be a strong candidate if you want to improve overall skin quality — hydration, smoothness, elasticity, and radiance — without changing your facial volume or contour. Skinbooster is well-suited to patients of many skin types and ages, and is especially popular for early signs of aging on the face, neck, hands, and décolletage.
Who should not receive Restylane Skinbooster?
Restylane Skinbooster is not recommended if you are allergic to hyaluronic acid or any other ingredient in the product, have an active skin infection or inflammation at the proposed injection site, have a history of severe or anaphylactic allergies, have a bleeding disorder or are taking blood-thinning medication that cannot be paused, or are pregnant or breastfeeding (as a precaution with all aesthetic injectables). Your provider will review your full medical history and current medications during your consultation.
Can I combine Skinbooster with other treatments?
Yes. Restylane Skinbooster pairs well with other treatments such as neuromodulators (Botox, Dysport, Relfydess), traditional dermal fillers, laser treatments, microneedling, and your home skincare routine. Dr. Shridharani will design a personalized plan that combines treatments to address your specific goals.
