Vollure in New York City with Dr. Shridharani

What is Vollure?

Vollure is the newest addition to Allergan’s next-generation dermal filler range, which falls within the Juvederm family. Vollure was developed using Vycross technology. Vycross technology uses an innovative combination of low and high molecular weight Hyaluronic Acid (HA) to improve the cross-linking efficiency of HA chains. This more effective cross-linking allows for a lower concentration of HA’s to be used. This ultra-smooth gel allows for a natural look and feel, minimal swelling and bruising, as well as improved duration. Dr. Shridharani injects this product safely in his patients in New York City.

Who Is A Good Candidate For Juvéderm Vollure Injections?

Vollure is designed for the correction of moderate to deep creases and wrinkles such as nasolabial folds running from the nose down to the corners of the mouth, and parentheses lines framing the mouth. If you have these deep creases, Vollure is a great option for you.

Juvederm Vollure with lidocaine delivers a natural look and feel and is excellent for smoothing nasolabial folds. Over time, the natural aging process can impact the cheeks, chin and jawline. Hallmarks of this process are loss of volume or definition and the appearance of wrinkles. Juvederm Vollure with lidocaine smooths deep creases for a refreshed look, as well as gently restores natural-looking contour in the lower face.

How Long Does Juvedérm Vollure Last?

Like Juvéderm Volbella and Voluma, Vollure uses Vycross crosslinking technology for minimal swelling when injected. The difference is that Vollure XC provides the longest lasting results of any hyaluronic acid filler — 18 months. That is six months longer than other hyaluronic acid fillers.

At first, Vollure sounds like it duplicates Juvéderm, which adds volume to nasolabial folds, parentheses lines, and marionette lines. But Vollure is specifically formulated for moderate to deep creases and wrinkles in these areas. It adds more volume to address these deeper depressions.

What’s The Difference Between Juvéderm Vollure and Botox?

While both are injectables, Vollure is a dermal filler and Botox is a neuromodulator. Dermal fillers, such as the entire Juvéderm line, are injected and they “fill” in the depressed space under a line or crease or they return volume to an area such as the cheeks. Dermal fillers work on what are known as “static wrinkles.” These are wrinkles caused by sun damage, declining collagen production, personal habits, and other factors. Static wrinkles show themselves at all times.

Botox and the other neuromodulatorsPerfect natural lip maqullage. Neuromodulators work on the other type of wrinkle, the dynamic wrinkle. Dynamic wrinkles only form on the expressive, upper third of the face. When we make common facial expressions, we use muscles around the eyes, the brows, and on the forehead. Over time and hundreds of thousands of these expressions (such as frowning or showing surprise), coupled with thinning skin and loss of elasticity, wrinkles begin to form on the surface skin above these muscles when they contract. These are dynamic wrinkles.

Neuromodulators are made from the botulinum toxin type A. When this substance is injected into a muscle in very minute amounts, it temporarily paralyzes the muscle, keeping it from contracting for a period of time. The botulinum toxin does this by blocking the acetylcholine, the nerve messenger in the muscle, from sending its signals to the brain. The brain never receives the message to contract the muscle, so the muscle remains at rest, and the wrinkle that would form with muscle contractions doesn’t form.

Neuromodulators don’t work on static wrinkles, and dermal fillers don’t work on dynamic wrinkles.

Are There Side Effects With Juvéderm Vollure?

Allergic reactions are rare because hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the human body. The typical side effects are redness, slight swelling, tenderness, and bruising at the injection sites. This resolves quickly. There can also be some firmness at the injection sites initially. This can even form some lumps, but these resolve in most cases in 7-10 days.

If a lump does form, Dr. Shridharani can simply inject an enzyme called hyaluronidase and this instantly neutralizes the hyaluronic acid and the filler.

What Kind of Experience Does Dr. Shridharani Have with Vollure?

Dr. Shridharani is an Advisory Board member for Allergan (makers of Botox, Juvederm, and Kybella). As a member of the Facial Aesthetics Advisory Board, Dr. Shridharani was given a “sneak peak” of Vollure several months prior to release. It allowed him to feel its consistency and ease of injection (not in patients). Dr. Schridharani has expertise in dermal fillers which gave him the opportunity to have the latest products including Vollure.

Q: What is Vycross Technology?

Vollure incorporates Allergan’s trademarked Vycross technology. There are a lot of technicalities that go into Vycross products (Juvederm Voluma, Volbella, and on the horizon…), but the gist is Vycross technology relates to the molecular structure and how the HA molecules are cross-linked. While most HA fillers are formulated with a 100% high-molecular- weight Hyaluronic Acid, the fillers in the Vycross Collection are all formulated with just 10% high-molecular- weight HA and 90% low- molecular-weight HA.

Can I combine Vollure with other fillers?

Dr. Shridharani likes the fact that each Juvéderm and Restylane filler we provide at Luxurgery has a specific targeted area on the face. To that end, different fillers can be combined in one treatment session. For instance, you could return volume to your sunken cheeks with Restylane Lyft, and in the same appointment fill out your nasolabial folds with Vollure. All Juvéderm and Restylane fillers are hyaluronic acid-based, so reactions are very rare.

Q: Will I need downtime after my Vollure session?

There isn’t any downtime with any Juvéderm or Restylane fillers. You can return to work or your normal activities immediately after your session. You do need to refrain from rubbing the injection sites for 24 hours.

Q:Are Juvederm Vollure Injections Painful?

Juvederm Vollure with lidocaine provides a versatile treatment option for patients who are looking for a discreet, natural look with minimal swelling and long-lasting results. Lidocaine is an added anesthetic for improved comfort. Basically, you will feel a tiny bee sting at the beginning and the area goes numb.
