How Does DermaClae Restore Facial Volume Without Liposuction?

Woman touching her cheeks to highlight smooth facial contours and youthful volume. Changes in facial fullness can make the temples look hollow, flatten the cheeks, or soften definition along the jawline. DermaClae gives patients another way to replenish these areas without removing fat from elsewhere on the body. The treatment is available at LUXURGERY© on Manhattan, New York’s Upper East Side, where Sachin M. Shridharani, MD, FACS performs surgical and nonsurgical facial contouring. Dr. Shridharani is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and has co-authored more than 100 peer-reviewed articles, textbook chapters, and abstracts.

What Is DermaClae Made From?

DermaClae is an injectable allograft adipose matrix. Although that term sounds technical, it simply means the product is made from donated human fat tissue that has been carefully screened, processed, and prepared for medical use.

Unlike traditional fat grafting, DermaClae does not require a surgeon to collect fat from your abdomen, thighs, or another donor area. There is no liposuction, surgical incision, or second treatment site. The prepared matrix is injected directly into areas that need added fullness or support.

How Is DermaClae Different From Dermal Fillers?

Several injectable treatments can improve facial contours, but they do not all work the same way. Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers use gel-based formulas to soften lines, shape facial features, and replace lost fullness. They are temporary and can be placed in carefully controlled amounts.

Other products take a different approach. Sculptra® injections encourage the body to build collagen gradually, while Radiesse® adds structure and stimulates collagen and elastin.

DermaClae uses a fat-derived tissue matrix rather than hyaluronic acid, poly-L-lactic acid, or calcium hydroxylapatite. That distinction may appeal to someone interested in adipose-based facial rejuvenation but not the surgical steps involved in harvesting their own fat.

DermaClae vs. Traditional Fat Transfer

During a fat transfer procedure, fat is removed from one part of your body through liposuction, purified, and placed into another area. This approach uses your own tissue and may be well suited to patients who want more substantial correction or are already considering body contouring.

DermaClae arrives ready for injection, so it avoids the donor-site recovery associated with fat grafting. Still, the two methods serve different needs. Your goals, anatomy, preferred degree of correction, and comfort with surgery all influence which approach makes the most sense.

Where Can DermaClae Be Used?

Depending on your facial structure and the pattern of volume loss, DermaClae may be considered for the:

  • Temples
  • Cheeks and midface
  • Chin and jawline
  • Lines or hollows around the mouth

Careful placement is important because each region requires a different level of support and contouring. Dr. Shridharani can also discuss whether DermaClae should be used alone or paired with another injectable treatment.
