When BBL May Be the Better Match
Here, BBL refers to Broadband Light, not Brazilian Butt Lift. Sciton BBL uses light energy and is used at our practice for concerns that include freckles, age spots, rosacea, cherry angiomas, telangiectasias, acne, and other pigmented or vascular lesions.
If brown spots, redness, or vessels are what bother you most, BBL may be one of the technologies we discuss. That does not mean it is automatically the right choice for every form of discoloration, since skin type and the specific cause of the color change still matter.
When HALO May Fit Your Goals
HALO is a hybrid fractional laser that delivers two types of laser energy. One works closer to the skin’s surface while the other reaches deeper tissue to stimulate collagen production. As outlined in our HALO treatment guide, it can be used for sun spots, fine lines, enlarged pores, discoloration, and uneven texture.
HALO often becomes more relevant when resurfacing is part of the goal, especially when texture, pores, fine lines, or signs of sun damage are prominent. Recovery is another practical consideration. Redness, warmth, mild swelling, and light peeling can occur for a few days after treatment.
Where Do BBL and HALO Overlap?
These treatments are not separated by a perfect line. Freckles, sun-related discoloration, and other signs of photodamage can create overlap, while some patients have both pigment and textural changes.
A simple way to frame the comparison is to think about what stands out most: BBL is often considered when pigment or vascular changes lead the list, while HALO may be more useful when resurfacing and texture are major priorities. Our broader laser skin resurfacing options and skin care treatments, including chemical peels, can also be considered when they better fit your skin and goals.
