Fat for a Better Face: What you Should Know about Fat Injections
- Posted on: Nov 30 2017
The way that we go about facial rejuvenation has changed dramatically in the last few decades. Instead of focusing on the substantial mechanical tightening of skin over the skeletal structure, most cosmetic surgeons now use a more intricate equation to restore beautiful facial features, and fat is integral to an outcome. We are proud to offer advanced cosmetic services including fat injections, or fat transfer, to patients of our office near Central Park in the heart of NYC. Here, we want to discuss what this innovative treatment is and what you can from the transfer of fat from one part of your body to your face.
What is Fat Transfer?
Ah, to move unwanted fat from one area and introduce it elsewhere! What a pipe-dream this once was! Today, fat transfer is one of the most popular methods of restoring youthful contours to the face. We have to mention, it is also used more and more often to restore or create fullness to the breasts and buttocks. Specifically, fat transfer involves the extraction of fat cells from an area such as the abdomen or thighs. The fat obtained in liposuction is processed, or spun, to extract the very best cells. These are then introduced into another area using a sterile syringe and tiny needle.
Who Chooses Fat Transfer?
Fat transfer for facial rejuvenation is not much unlike other injectable modalities. The slight differences between processes, though, makes a big difference in results. What may be most advantageous about fat transfer is that results are permanent. A certain amount of the cells that are injected into the various parts of the face do absorb. However, a larger percentage of cells integrate into the tissue of the face. Once this happens, they do not go anywhere. Remember, however, that the face will continue to age and natural depletion is to be expected over time.
Fat transfer is ideal for men and women who want long-lasting improvements such as:
- Fuller lips
- Rounded cheekbones
- Sharper jaw line
- Decrease in lines and wrinkles around the mouth and nose
- Reduced appearance of hollowness under the eyes, cheeks, or at the temples
- Less visibility of depressed scars
